Open Water Diver

What is the Open Water Diver course?

The Open Water Diver course is the first level of scuba diving certification. This program gives you the knowledge and skills needed to dive independently, always with another certified diver.

During the course, you’ll learn how to:

• Plan dives safely.
• Use scuba diving equipment correctly.
• Control your buoyancy.
• Understand how your body reacts underwater.

Once you complete the course, you’ll receive your SSI certification, recognized worldwide and valid for life.

Learning to scuba dive in L’Estartit is a unique experience. Located near the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful underwater environments in the Mediterranean.

What Will You Learn During the Course?

The course combines theory lessons, swimming pool training and open water dives to provide a complete learning experience.

Scuba Diving Theory

You’ll have access to SSI digital learning materials and attend theory sessions covering:

• Diving rules and dive planning.
• How to use a dive computer.
• Basic physics applied to scuba diving.
• How diving affects the human body.

Swimming Pool Training

Before heading out to sea, you’ll practice in a controlled environment:

• Basic safety exercises.
• Scuba diving equipment handling.
• Breathing and buoyancy control.

Open Water Dives

You’ll complete 4 open water dives, always accompanied by your instructor:

• Put everything you’ve learned into practice.
• Gain independence and confidence underwater.
• Enjoy the experience of scuba diving in the sea.

Open Water Course Schedule (3 Days)

The course usually takes 3 consecutive days, although we can adapt the schedule to your availability.

Day 1

• Theory (chapters 1, 2 and 4).
• Swimming pool session.
• Lunch break.
• Theory (chapters 3, 5 and 6).

Day 2

• 2 open water dives.

Day 3

• 2 open water dives.

The schedule may vary depending on sea conditions and the diving center’s operations, always aiming to provide the best possible experience.

What’s Included in the Open Water Course in L’Estartit?

Our Open Water course in L’Estartit includes everything you need, so all you have to do is focus on enjoying the experience:

• Price: €450.
• Duration: 3 days.

Included in the course:

• Lifetime access to SSI digital learning materials (DIAMOND level).
• 3–4 hours of in-person theory lessons.
• 2 hours of swimming pool training.
• 4 open water dives.
• Diving insurance throughout the course.
• Complete scuba diving equipment rental.
• Dive computer and surface marker buoy provided by the center.

Requirements for Taking the Course

To take the course, you’ll need to:

• Be at least 10 years old.
• Know how to swim and feel comfortable in the water.
• Complete a medical questionnaire (a medical certificate may be required in some cases).
• Be eager to learn and enjoy the experience.
