Do you want to contribute your grain of salt to research and conservation of the environment? La Sirena offers you the chance to do so!
The protection of the marine environment is one of our company’s priorities. For 50 years we have been trying to promote all those actions aimed at raising awareness among our customers, spreading the message of respect and collaborating in the study of the sea. It is also key for us to clearly determine the conservation status of our area and the negative impacts that human action generates.
As a result of all this, taking advantage of the growing interest of today’s society, we wanted to create a citizen science program for our visitors. We have given them the generic name of conservation programs, as this is the ultimate goal of all of them.
To do this we have coordinated with various entities (CIB, Vimar, Bufalvent, Padi, SSI…) and official bodies (UAB, UB and UVic…) in order to create interesting and attractive projects for researches. The aim is to take advantage of the data from the immersions that are carried out in the Natural Park to draw scientific conclusions that can help to preserve the environment, modifying practices and behaviors that could be negative.
We are currently working on various conservation programs, and new ones will be created each season. We collect data in different ways (questionnaires, photographs, videos) in order to draw conclusions. The main current programs are:
Also considered as conservation programs are those training courses aimed at improving fishing techniques.
Periodically we will publish the data collected with the scientific conclusions of the studies as well as the list of observers of each program.
